Pinnacle Construction built the first home and the other four are being built by Hudson Interiors; Cass’s volunteer corps is doing the interior construction. Fowler anticipates that the houses now under construction should be finished and ready for move-in by April. And this just in -- the Community just purchased Tower Studio Plan 479-6, shown above, so stay tuned for later updates!
Decide what size of home will best suit your family. Every family doesn’t need a sprawling estate and every family won’t feel comfortable in a small two bedroom home. Choosing a floor plan first should start with how large a home will fit your lifestyle. Assess how many bedrooms you will require for your children and how many bathrooms are enough for you and visiting guests. The size of your home should be the first consideration.
For example, Plan 890-1, shown above and in the lead image, provides a small, easily maintained home in only 800 square feet yet lives large due to the many porches that extend the interior space outdoors. Another plan type that we’ll see more of is the classic Florida Split Plan, as in Plan 481-5, shown below. With a large group gathering area between owner and guest bedroom areas, resident Boomers can have their children and grandchildren visit for as long as they want without everyone being on top of each other. A nice feature of this type of plan is the ability to close off the guest bedrooms from the rest of the house. All it takes is a pocket door in the right location to give each, owner and guest, their own private area.
Don’t assume you are crazy for not understanding floor plan drawings: If you recently started looking or designing your next home, more than likely you will need to review architectural drawings or floor plan drawings. While for many design professionals it is second nature, for many homeowners the symbols and nomenclature can be difficult to understand. Don’t assume you are supposed to know what every door swing, window, stair, and multi-story space looks like on a floor plan. Don’t make the mistake of assuming just ask!
