Decide what size of home will best suit your family. Every family doesn’t need a sprawling estate and every family won’t feel comfortable in a small two bedroom home. Choosing a floor plan first should start with how large a home will fit your lifestyle. Assess how many bedrooms you will require for your children and how many bathrooms are enough for you and visiting guests. The size of your home should be the first consideration.
Ensure architectural features won’t cost you more in the future: There is nothing like getting excited about architectural features that look beautiful on a 2D floor plan and feel even nicer when standing inside of the finished home. Details like expansive floor to ceiling windows, skylights and other architectural features could have an impact on heating and cooling your home when your energy bill arrives. While it may not be a concern now, think of green cost savings on your architectural features of your floor plan for future living too.
Five Houseplans.com designs were chosen for phase one of the project (which includes 25 tiny homes for single people and couples), and each design is completely different. The reason is simple. Most of the residents are coming from institutions like homeless shelters or senior apartments where every living space is the same, says the Rev. Faith Fowler, the CCSS’s executive director. We wanted to instill pride in the people that no one else has a house like theirs.
Understand that floor plan modifications could be an option. While it would be nice to have the right floor plan appear before your eyes, remodeling and modifying a floor plan can be a viable option. Removing a spare closet to make more room in your kids’ bathroom area or opening up a wall to let in natural light could make your floor plan even better. Keep this in mind when looking for a floor plan that is right for you.
