Choose a floor plan that suits your lifestyle. In a previous post we discussed the pros and cons of having an open floor plan. There are factors you should consider regardless of openness. Factors such as: layout of rooms with consideration of family size and ages of children is essential. Most families who have young children like to have the private spaces of the house – bedrooms and bathrooms grouped in one area of the home.
The problem with that is we typically don't spend enough time evaluating and considering the design aspects of the new house. The most important thing to remember is spending extra time in the beginning will prevent you from having second thoughts once the house is done. The following list are ten important things to consider when choosing a new house plan.
Watching children in an open floor plan can be safe: Open floor plans that are open from the kitchen into the living spaces are great for monitoring children while they play, and you make dinner. This reduces the amount of time away from your important tasks, but for safety reasons allows you to watch them out the corner of your eye!
You've got your eye on the out-dated kitchen or you think you might want to just tear up your carpeting and install hardwood floors, but before you start to rip out the cabinets or the carpet make sure to establish some guidelines for your home improvement plan. A good home improvement plan should take into account: budget, financing, scope of work, functionality and aesthetics, resale value.
