Trust your instincts on what “feels” right when choosing a floor plan. All of us have the ability to “feel” when a space feels comfortable and able to fit their needs. Take these instincts into consideration when touring different floor plans. You will be surprised how many styles of plans there are to choose from. A family with small children may love the ability for the master bedroom to be housed amongst the other bedrooms. On the other hand, a family with teenagers could prefer for the maser bedroom to be separated by public spaces such as the living room and kitchen instead. Listen to what speaks to you when choosing a plan.
Pinnacle Construction built the first home and the other four are being built by Hudson Interiors; Cass’s volunteer corps is doing the interior construction. Fowler anticipates that the houses now under construction should be finished and ready for move-in by April. And this just in -- the Community just purchased Tower Studio Plan 479-6, shown above, so stay tuned for later updates!
It helps to have a large, open kitchen on the days when families and friends congregate in your home. If you plan on doing the cooking, you may need to set some boundaries, so you can pull bacon-wrapped shrimp out of the oven without guest interference. An island is an ideal way to create a wall between food prep and social spaces, as shown in Plan 928-10 by Visbeen Associates. Islands, which have become fixtures in new home design, also come in handy for putting out appetizers and drinks during a party.
Tiny homes giving formerly homeless people the opportunity to become homeowners? You bet! Tiny homes are now being built in a Detroit neighborhood where formerly homeless folks and people with low incomes can rent—and have the opportunity to buy—their own homes. These very small green houses are part of a community within a neighborhood called Cass Community Tiny Homes that’s being developed by the Detroit-based nonprofit Cass Community Social Services (CCSS), which provides health, housing, food and jobs programs in areas of concentrated poverty in the city.
